After a successful 8-3 season in which they advanced to the playoffs, the Cullman Bearcats had 10 players selected to the Class 5A, All-Region 8 team.

Senior quarterback Carson Williams received the highest of Cullman's honors, being named the region offensive MVP. Williams finished the season 178-of- 292 passing for 2,185 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Bearcats' top three junior receivers — Russell Miller, Colton Terry and Lance Walker — each earned All-Region honors. Terry led Cullman with 656 yards and six touchdowns, while Miller added 619 yards and five touchdowns and Walker had 405 yards and four touchdowns.

Also getting named to the All-Region team were senior running back Cody McCroy, junior lineman Jacob Gable, junior linebacker Joseph Goodwin, senior defensive backs Caleb Clay and Raymond Segura, and junior kicker John Nyquist.

"I thought we had a good year against some great competition," said Cullman head coach Mark Britton. "I was real proud of numbers. But more than anything how we played as a team."

Clay anchored Cullman's defense this defense, recording 148 tackles and two interceptions. Segura arrived on the Cullman roster following his family's evacuation from Hurricane Katrina. In eight games he registered 64 tackles, one forced fumble and two interceptions.

McCroy led the Bearcats in rushing with 776 yards rushing and eight touchdowns. He also added 292 yards receiving and scored on special teams.

Goodwin tallied 97 tackles, with a sack and a fumble, playing multiple positions on defense. He also blocked three kicks this season.

Nyquist finished the year 13-of-17 on field goals, including a 56-yarder in the season opener against Gadsden. He also went 40-43 on extra points.

Cullman also had four players earn All-Region honorable mention honors — senior linebackers Michael Ugarkovich and Blake Bright, sophomore linebacker Robert Payne and junior defensive back Zeb Smith.

Britton credited his coaching for helping his players..

"As a group, our coaching staff probably had our best year since I've been here," Britton said.
