Hanceville football coach Cody McCain reacts on the sideline during a game last season.

Football season is right around the corner — yes, you read that correctly.

Spring practices wrapped up earlier this month, and the nine local teams in The Times' coverage area will try to build on their momentum as they prepare for upcoming summer workouts ahead of the 2019 campaign, which is scheduled to begin on Aug. 22 for some programs.

Let's take a closer look at how the spring went for Addison, Cold Springs and Vinemont.

% Jamboree: Danville, Vinemont

% Coach Speak: "It was important for us to have those days to work in these new faces. We’ve got several guys coming back but not many that have played a significant amount of time on Friday night. It was good to have those days to work those positions — seeing what these guys can do. It was vital to know where we stood going into the summer." — Alan Scott

"I felt like our guys were prepared to play — mentally and physically — in the jamboree. They were able to come out and execute, though not perfectly. We didn’t have many penalties, we didn’t lose the ball. No injuries. That was huge. On the negative side, I would just say right now we haven’t gelled as a team yet. But that’s hard to do over nine days. That’s what this summer is about — trying to figure each other out." — Alan Scott

% Coach Speak: “It was an up-and-down spring, but I felt like we ended it on a really high note. There were some rough parts, but that has a lot to do with how young of a team we have. The bulk of the team is juniors and below. So many new faces. We’re counting on them to be key pieces. It’s going to be a learning curve for those guys.” — Cody McCain

“The positive part was that we moved the ball extremely well offensively in the jamboree. I thought, at times, on defense we played a little better than stretches last year. Our effort was good. We fumbled the ball too much, and there were times where we weren’t very good in tackling. That’s something we need to improve on as we move forward." — Cody McCain
