MONTGOMERY — Game 1 of the Class 6A state championship series between No. 7 Cullman and Chelsea has been suspended until Friday.

The teams were scheduled to open the best-of-three-game series at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Paterson Field but didn't get started until 9:15 p.m. due to lightning delays.

Another delay at 9:40 p.m. prompted a suspension of play.

The score was 0-0 in the top of the second inning.

The game will resume Friday at 4 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium as part of a doubleheader. A potential Game 3 tiebreaker would now take place on Saturday, though a time is unknown.
