MONTGOMERY — Brennen Norton hit a one-out double in the seventh inning and came around to score on an error one batter later to lift Cullman to a 1-0 victory against Chelsea in Game 1 of the Class 6A state championship series on Friday.

Norton's double was the lone hit of the game for the No. 7 Bearcats, who are now 29-14 and one victory away from their first state title since 2015.

Peyton Colvard followed Norton and hit a grounder that was misplayed by the Chelsea shortstop, resulting in the game-winning run.

Dylon Wallace scattered two hits and six strikeouts to earn the win on the mound.

Game 2 is scheduled to start in the next hour.
