HOLLY POND — The Holly Pond Lady Broncos may have shown themselves a force to be reckoned with, as the AHSAA volleyball playoffs loom large within the next few weeks.

Holly Pond knocked off the Class 3A 5th-ranked Good Hope Lady Raiders 2-1 in its match with cross-county rivals, and also got past the Class 4A’s 10th-ranked Ashville Lady Bulldogs 2-1.

The Lady Broncos opened to an early 8-0 advantage in the first game of their match with Good Hope, and never relinquished their lead.

Good Hope battled back to pull within a single point at 10-9, but were unable to overcome the Lady Bronco advantage and lost the game 25-21.

The Lady Raiders looked embarrassed by their performance in the first game, and came back in the second game with a vengeance and opened up to a 11-4 lead, and finished the game 25-15 to set a decisive third game.

The lead changed hands three separate occasions in the final game, with Holly Pond taking the lead for good on a 4-1 run with the game tied at seven apiece. The Lady Broncos finished the game 15-11.

Chasity Chambers and Lindsey Hestla proved the dominant force in the Lady Broncos win. Chambers led the team with nine kills and digs, three aces, seven blocked shots and an assist.

Hestla had seven kills, eight digs and three blocks, Cydney Morris contributed with 19 assists and one each in kills, digs and aces, and Britney Scott had two kills.

Kayla Wigley, in her first games back since receiving a broken hand three weeks ago, had three kills, Tonya Black had two digs and an ace, Haley Bagwell finished with a kill and a dig, and Karlie Baker added five digs.

Good Hope was led by Jessica Raper with 14 kills and three blocks, Samantha Duke had 21 assists and two each in aces and kills, Briana Yarbrough had 13 kills.

Brandi Hudson had eight assists, Ashley Stanley finished with five assists and Morgan Goodwin had two assists.

Holly Pond 2,

New Hope 1

The Lady Broncos had to battle back to get past area-foe New Hope Lady Indians. New Hope took the first game 27-25, but Holly Pond came back to win the next two games 25-8 and 17-15.

Chambers had 12 kills, three digs, nine blocks and four aces. Hestla had eight kills, two digs and three blocks, Morris 26 assists, Bagwell five kills, and Wigley two kills.

Holly Pond 2, Ashville 1

Holly Pond had to come back in this game to make it to the winner’s bracket. The Lady Broncos lost the first game to the Lady Bulldogs 25-21, but came back to claim the match 29-27 and 15-12.

Chambers had five aces, five kills and four blocks, Hestla 11 kills and three blocks, and Morris 18 assists.

Holly Pond 2,

West End 0

West End proved no contest to the Lady Broncos, as Holly Pond swept the Lady Patriots 25-14 in both games to win the match.

Scott had four kills, Hestla three kills, eight aces and three blocks, Morris nine assists and Chambers three blocks.

Holly Pond 2,

Locust Fork 0

The Lady Broncos got past the Locust Fork Lady Hornets 25-12 and 25-11. Chelsea Williams had and assist and a dig, Morris 13 assists and Chambers five kills.

Good Hope 2,

New Hope 0

The Lady Raiders were led by Raper with 14 kills, six blocks, an ace and two assists, LaShay Henke had four kills and two blocks, Katie Windsor had three aces, Ashley Stanley had nine aces and Duke had two kills and 11 assists.

Good Hope 2,

J.B. Pennington 0

Good Hope got past the Lady Tigers 25-13 an 25-11. Raper had eight each in kills and aces, Duke had 14 assists and three aces, Yarbrough had five kills and two aces, and Hudson had nine assists.

Good Hope 2, Lincoln 0

The Lady Raiders struggled slightly with the Lincoln Lady Bears, but came out with 25-12 and 25-22 wins. Henke had six kills and a block, and Raper had 16 kills, four blocks and three aces.

Good Hope 2, Appalachian 0

Duke led the Lady Raiders with 10 assists and two aces, Yarbrough had five kills and three aces, Stanley finished with three aces and two assists, and Kayla Johnson had a kill.

Fairview 2,

Holly Pond JV 0

Lauren Tidwell, Sarah Denney and Alysha Smith each had a kill, and Smith had two blocks. Tidwell, Denney and Kacie Mangum each had a block.

Fairview 2,

St. Clair County 1

Smith led the team with two kills and seven blocks, Ashton Ryan had a block and Denney finished with a kill and five blocks.

New Hope 2, Fairview 1

Fairview took the first game from the Lady Indians, but could not capture a win for the match. Smith had four kills and five blocks, Jazz Foust had two kills, and Denney had two kills and four blocks.

The Lady Aggies also beat Lincoln 25-12 and 25-20, but lost to Ashville 13-25, 27-25 and 7-15.
