BREMEN — The Addison Lady Bulldogs came up short against the No. 3-ranked Oakman Lady Wildcats for the Class 2A, Area 10 championship, with an 8-6 loss Tuesday.

“I was proud of the girls’ effort and the way they battled,” said Addison coach Jeff Scott. “We had a chance to win the ball game, but were unable to make the plays when we needed them.”

Addison was aggressive and jumped out to an early 6-3 lead over the Lady Wildcats, but were unable to maintain the lead as Amanda Wells hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game.

Oakman’s Marcy Sartain later got a solo shot with two outs in the sixth inning for the lead and a double by Wells scored Payten Williams for the final margin.

The Lady Bulldogs had the momentum their way much of the game, until questionable calls erased a scoring opportunity for Addison in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The fourth inning deflated the Lady Bulldogs emotions totally, as they were unable to rebound and hold on for the win.

Again team errors hindered the Lady Bulldogs’ defense, as four errors led to four unearned runs for Oakman.

Addison gave Oakman an early lead in the first inning with an errant throw by Lynsey Hawse. Hawse’s throw got away from Haley Wiggins at first base, and Williams was able to score for the Lady Wildcats on the play.

The Lady Bulldogs shifted the momentum and plated two runs in the bottom half to reclaim the lead. Woodard reached on a single and stole second.

Taylor then reached on a bunt single and Woodard stole third. Kayla Carden scored Woodard with a ground out to short stop, and Taylor stole home for the go-ahead run.

Oakman had two runs in the top of the second for another Lady Wildcat lead, but Addison pounded out four runs for the 6-3 lead.

Hannah Powell lined a shot to right field, then Megan Hill and Woodard were walked to load the bases. Taylor worked the Wildcat pitcher for another walk to plate Powell to tie the game at 3-3.

Woodard went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, Taylor went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Willingham, Wiggins and Hawse each went 1-for-4, Powell went 1-for-3 and Hill 1-for-2.

Addison will travel next Tuesday to take on the winner of Area 9 in Class 2A, while Oakman will host the runner-up.
