That new state-of-the-art swimming center keeps paying dividends for Cullman’s swimming and diving teams.

Two weeks after Cullman Swim Team won its first Tennessee Valley Conference title since 2001, Cullman Diving had two first-place winners Thursday at the ARPA District II meet in Boaz.

Cullman also had four more divers advance to the state meet — which will be held July 23 at the new Wellness and Aquatic Center — by finishing in the top three of their respective events.

Since Cullman’s youth swimming and diving teams moved into the Aquatic Center before this season, coaches have raved about its advantages to the athletes.

The proof is in the results: Despite not having a diving team for much of the decade, Cullman’s Anna Evans and Laura Evans both took first place Thursday in Boaz. Anna Evans won the 10U girls event, while Laura Evans took first in the 15-18 girls category.

Other state qualifiers were: Eric Pilcher, who took second in the 11-12 boys; Isom Carden, who took third in the 11-12 boys; Zeb Dalke, who took second in the 13-14 boys; and Stedmon Kugler, who took second in the 15-18 boys.

Also participating were: Lindsay Hill, who took sixth in the 11-12 girls; Drake Hollingsworth, who finished fourth in the 11-12 boys; Gabe Privett, who was fifth in the 11-12 boys; and Nicholas Fillinger, who took sixth in the 11-12 boys.

Divers in the 13-14 and 15-18 group were judged on forward, backward, inward, reverse and twisting jumps. The 11-12 group was judged on forward, backward, inward and twisting jumps, while the 10U group was judged on forward, backward and inward jumps.
