Scott Adams did not mind getting a bucket of water tossed on him by his Holly Pond Lady Broncos after they won the Class 3A, Area 13 title Saturday night — beating Susan Moore 64-56 in overtime at Felton Easterwood Gymnasium.

Susan Moore’s Kaylie Bullard tied the game at 49-49 with three seconds left in regulation, sending the battle into overtime.

Once they were able to get the lead in the extra period, the Lady Broncos extended it by knocking down some free throws and celebrated winning the area title and also setting a school record for wins in a single season (23), breaking the mark of 22 set by the 1980-81 squad.

“I thought Susan Moore took it to us,” Adams said. “We would get the lead to five points and they kept coming back. We could never stop them. They have a good ball team and return everyone next year.”

The Broncos led 8-6 after one period and took a 19-16 advantage into halftime.

A 5-0 run by Holly Pond at the start of the third gave the Broncos a 24-16 margin, but Susan Moore took the lead with a 17-7 run.

A bucket from Haley Terry tied the game at 33-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Holly Pond led 48-42 in the final minute, but Susan Moore got the tying basket when Bullard hit a 15-foot jumper to tie it at 49.

Chasity Chambers led Holly Pond with 17 points, while Haley Bagwell scored 16 and Cydney Morris tossed in 13.

Kelsey Hawkins and Terry added eight each.
