Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette

Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette speaks to the gathered crowd at the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce’s May Morning Blend.

As we look to 2020 Cullman County Schools will continue to focus on quality academics, while improving classroom performance and teacher excellence. Maintaining academic rigor in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), reading, and career pathways are going to provide opportunities to move our children forward and prepare them for success in the future.

Career technical education is critical to the growth and the well-being of our community. Our responsibility as educators is to prepare our students for well-paying and successful careers. Some of these career fields include health science careers (nurses, CNAs, EMTs, etc.) which provide quality health care for both young and old, they are also vital for our community and quality-of-life. Some of these career fields include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automotive mechanics and automotive manufacturing, injection molding, small engine repair, technicians, pipefitters, welders, agriculture, pre-engineering, as well as other high demand careers. Our job as educators is to help students find their niche in careers that they are passionate about, while still meeting the workforce demands of our community. We are so blessed to have the industries and businesses that we have here in Cullman. We want to prepare our students for the employment opportunities that these businesses create. We believe this is extremely important if future generations want to live and raise a family here in Cullman, Alabama.

We continue to strive for excellence earning an A on our State Report Card with 90.32% of our students meeting College and Career Readiness Indicators. While our current society benefits from the sacrifices of previous generations; we must invest in students today to secure this quality of life for decades to come. Voters will have this opportunity to support our students on March 3. Our students deserve the very best and this plan will ensure our students are equipped with 21st century skills needed for success for generations to come. Join us on March 3 in support of the plan to move Cullman Forward. This plan will not only prepare our students employment but it will also improve facilities and safety on every individual campus. You will hear much more about this plan in the coming weeks.

I am so thankful to be part of an educational team that loves young people and is passionate about providing the educational, emotional and social needs so that all of our students can be successful, regardless of their individual challenges. 2020 is going to be a great year for Cullman County Schools and with your support on March 3 we can change the trajectory of our school system forever. May God bless you and your family.
