4 dead in wreck near Joppa

Brandon Buckelew of the Joppa Volunteer Fire Department, foreground, meets Jesse Sattler of the Vinemont-Providence Volunteer Fire Department near the scene of an accident that claimed four lives Monday morning.

The four people who died in a Monday morning head-on collision were members of a family from Arab.

The family's vehicle, a Pontiac, which was initially in the northbound lanes of Alabama 67 South collided with a logging truck that was traveling south.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick reported that the driver Allen Duanne Gore, 41, passenger Holly Marie Young, 23, and a 2-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy were all pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the logging truck was treated at Cullman Regional with non life threatening injuries.

The area was blocked off from both directions until 1:50 p.m. as law enforcement and medical personnel worked at the scene to remove the victims and wreckage.

Responders initially found three people dead at the scene and discovered one of the children, the fourth victim, as they worked at the scene.

Kilpatrick said he would not release the names of the children because of their ages.
