More than two dozen UAB employees were injured in a bus accident in Winston County while on a retreat.
A UAB official said 25 employees and a bus driver were involved in the crash. The bus involved was a Blazer Express vehicle operated by First Transit.
Regional Paramedical Services sent 10 ambulances and LifeFlight helicopters to the scene. Cullman Emergency Medical Services dispatched three ambulances to the wreck, said Eric Pendley of Regional Paramedical Services.
"The bus was on a dead-end road and had struck a tree," Pendley said. "We treated several people at the scene. The others were flighted or driven to UAB, and five were sent to Cullman Regional. We really appreciate Cullman EMS arriving here to assist."
Five of the employees were reported to be in critical condition.
The passengers deemed with less severe injuries were taken to Cullman Regional. The bus was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.
The students were believed to be going to Camp McDowell near Houston, Pendley said.
