The ‘2+2’ Poultry Science program at Wallace State Community College recently received a $6,720 grant from Poultry and Egg Harold E. Ford Foundation, continuing a long-standing partnership with the Foundation and Wallace State.
“These funds are made possible through the U.S. Poultry Foundation, through a gift given in part by Peco Foods,” said LaDonna Allen, Alumni Coordinator at Wallace State. “The Foundation was created to provide funds to train and educate students for the advancement of the poultry industry.”
The funds will be utilized to make Wallace State students aware of the ‘2+2’ poultry science partnership with the college and Auburn University.
The ‘2+2’ partnership with Auburn University’s Poultry Science program allows students to complete their freshman and sophomore years of college at Wallace State and then transfer to Auburn University for their junior and senior years, culminating with a bachelor’s degree in poultry science. The poultry science courses at Wallace State are administered under the Agricultural Production/Horticulture program.
Cullman County, where Wallace State is located, is among the top poultry-producing counties in the state.
Through the Wallace State Future Foundation, scholarships are available for students majoring in poultry science at Wallace State and Auburn. Scholarship applications, which will open in February, can be completed at wsccfuturefoundation.org.
