Hill Top Garden Club

Members of Hill Top Garden Club gathered at Augusta’s Restaurant recently to celebrate Anne Hendon’s 92nd birthday. The organization has been in existence since October, 1967, when women from the Woodland Heights subdivision gathered at Anne’s home for their formation meeting. Anne served as the groups’ first president as she does today. In the late 60’s and following two decades, numerous garden clubs served the Cullman community, but Hill Top remains as the last functioning organization. In their heyday Hill Top joined with others in participating in the Cullman County flower show competition at the annual Lion’s Club fairs, undertook beautification projects throughout the city and worked with Headstart children in gardening education. Their gardening days are a thing of the past, but their 52 year relationships have survived through thick and thin. Now, as Anne puts it, remaining members ‘Meet, greet and eat’ each month.
