A Cullman man who was reported missing last spring, but found safe in Texas later, has been charged with felony forgery and identity theft.
Charles Steven Smith Jr., 42, was arrested and charged Aug. 30 with the felony charges by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Smith was booked in the Cullman County Detention Center and later made bond.
Smith was reported missing in April this year when his truck was found near New Orleans with bullet holes.
After numerous hours on searching and investigations by the Cullman Police Department, New Orleans Police Department, dive teams, and cadaver dogs, Smith was found alive and unharmed in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 16.
Smith left on a trip to Mississippi around April 19 and was reported missing after family lost contact with him. He was heard from in Mississippi, but sometime later his vehicle was discovered in New Orleans.
In Cullman, it was considered a missing person’s case.
