Cullman City Elementary Schools hold professional development ahead of intermediate school combination

Staff at both East and West Elementary Schools work together as part of a combined professional development session for both schools, marking the first step toward establishing Cullman Intermediate School.

Cullman City Schools is working toward its goal to eventually establish a combined intermediate school for all elementary students in grades 3-5, and to make sure staff are fully aligned, both East and West Elementary schools recently held a combined professional development day.

The school system has long term plans to have all elementary students attend a combined Cullman Intermediate School, which will be constructed at the current West Elementary School campus. The aim is to have that project complete by the 2026-2027 school year.

The joint professional development session was held on February 19 at Terri Pines, giving the staff of both elementary schools a chance to collaborate and align on the future of elementary education in the district.

“The professional development session on February 19th between East and West Elementary School was a success, marking the beginning of efforts to forge stronger relationships and collaboration for the benefit of Cullman City’s students and families,” Cullman City Schools Elementary Curriculum Director Emily Hines said.

The professional development session was the first of several strategic meetings to kick off the combination of East and West, and the creation of Cullman Intermediate School. Staff members in attendance included teachers, administrators and support personnel.

Looking ahead, plans are also in the works for a community stakeholders meeting for parents and families of young students to learn more about how the plan will work.
