A Cullman County Schools program to provide free afternoon meals is expanding into Holly Pond after approval by the Cullman County School Board Monday night.
The At-Risk Supper program is already in place across the county, and the addition of Holly Pond means all of the system’s students have the opportunity to eat another meal before going home, Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette said.
He said that meal may be the only one that some students can get after lunch, and the program also works well for athletes or students in other activities that are going to be staying on campus after school.
“We know that for a lot of our students, that is their meal for the evening, so we’re excited to be able to step in and provide that,” he said.
The program will begin at Holly Pond on Oct. 1.
