HUEYTOWN, Ala. — Authorities confirm they have found the body of Paighton Houston, 29, buried in the backyard of a house in Hueytown, about 13 miles west of Birmingham. Houston was last seen Dec. 20 leaving a Birmingham bar.
Lynneice Washington, district attorney for the Bessemer Cutoff District of Jefferson County, told news outlets that the Trussville woman's body was found in a shallow grave at the home.
Law enforcement searched the home after receiving tips, she said. There had been a heavy police presence at the home for two days with multiple law enforcement agencies participating.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is taking the lead in the investigation, Chief Deputy David Agee told reporters.
"Right now, we have a lot more questions than answers, but we hope to have those answers soon," Agee said.
Family members told news outlets that Houston sent a text to a friend saying she didn't know who she was with and felt in trouble.
