Cullman County Sheriff’s investigators suspect a fire that destroyed the inside of a local home last week was the work of an arsonist.

According to sheriff’s reports, the arson allegedly took place between 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 a.m. Friday at a home on Lick Creek Road. The victims in the case were not present at the time of the fire.

“They left and when they came back home, they saw the inside of their home was burnt out,” said Lt. Phillip Lambert of the sheriff’s office. “There was some evidence of diesel fuel or kerosene being poured.”

Reports indicate the suspect or suspects forcibly entered the residence through the front door. The fire destroyed part of the home as well as several pieces of property.

No suspects have been listed in the case.

“The fire marshal has been notified but he hasn’t arrived yet,” Lambert said.
