Cullman police investigators are seeking the public's help in developing information regarding the July 8 theft of a pickup truck in the vicinity of the Cullman Flea Market.

Lt. Frances Styles with the Cullman Police Department said the incident was originally reported to police as a case of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after the owner of the 1991 GMC Sonoma reportedly allowed an individual to use the truck. That person, whose identity isn't known, failed to return the truck at the specified time.

"The owner of the truck had the vehicle for sale. A man came and looked at the truck and told the owner he was interested in buying it and he asked if he could drive it. The owner said he looked at the man's drivers license and decided it would be OK and he let him test drive it. The only problem is, he never brought the truck back," Styles said. "And now the owner can't remember what the man's name is. He believes he knows the man's last name, but we can't find anyone with that name residing in this area."

Styles said she is hopeful someone in the area may have seen the truck, which the owner described as being very distinctive in color.

"This is a dark blue pickup with a cherry red driver's door, which should make it stick out," Styles said. "It was taken from 415 Lincoln Avenue SW, which is adjacent to the Cullman Flea Market. The truck's tag number is 25B942V."

The truck is valued at $400. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the truck or the person responsible for taking it are asked to contact Lt. Styles in the Investigation Division of the Cullman Police Department at 775-7170 or call dispatch at 775-7145.
