A trial date in the case of a slain Vinemont man whose body was found alongside a road in southwest Morgan County has been continued.

Charged with first-degree murder, Selena Michelle Kelley, 32, formerly of Vinemont, was scheduled for court Monday under Morgan County Circuit Judge Steven E. Haddock, but her trial was continued until Oct. 1.

During her arraignment, she entered a plea of not guilty. She is defended by Decatur attorney Carl Cowart, who could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Also facing first-degree murder charges in the case are Kelley’s former boyfriend, Stephen Lynn Woodall, 36, who is already serving jail time for another charge; and Arvil Lee Townsend, 21, of Somerville.

Trials dates for the trio are scheduled for Oct. 1. It is not clear if they will be tried together or separately, according to the Morgan County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.

The defendants stand accused of taking part in the murder of 41-year-old Keith Sullins, whose duct-taped body was found in Morgan County early last year.

According to reports from the Morgan County DA’s Office, the three defendants duct-taped the victim’s arms and legs, then duct taped a plastic bag over his head, suffocating him.

Once Sullins was dead, his body was allegedly placed in a large plastic container and dumped it in a ravine along Parker Gap Road in Morgan County.

It was discovered by passersby Feb. 25. Sullins was reported missing Feb. 16, according to Lt. Phillip Lambert with the Cullman Sheriff’s Office.

According to Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard, the body was too badly decomposed at the time of discovery to identify or determine cause of death. It was sent to a state lab for testing.

The killing was allegedly part of a drug deal gone bad. According to the DA’s office, Woodall was angry with Sullins over some sort of drug deal.

A spokesperson for the DA’s office said all of the defendants were methamphetamine users.

Two other defendants in the case stand accused of hindering prosecution, but not murder. They are Christopher Hogan, 30, of Decatur, and Cheston Campbell, 19, of Somerville.
