BIRMINGHAM — Erin Kress used her Gold Award project to establish Taps in Cullman, an organization of volunteer trumpet players that play at special ceremonies or funerals of servicemen and women. To gather a list of names, and as a way to communicate with interested people, Erin created a Facebook group and website (tapsincullman.com).

“I wanted to honor those servicemen and women with a live musician,” said Erin, “Too many times they will only have a recording.” Erin’s website and Facebook group is available to anyone looking to volunteer or looking for a volunteer to play an event.

Erin is the daughter of Brian and Pam Kress. She is a 2011 graduate of Cullman High School and is currently a freshman at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
