A family of four in the Mount Olive community is without a home today, after fire Friday ravaged their residence located at 267 County Road 1609.

The structure was a total loss. It reportedly belongs to Roy and Linda McClendon, who lived at the home with their two children.

According to Roy McClendon, no one was home when the fire started, sometime between 11 a.m. and noon.

The house was fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews arrived on the scene.

“I reckon everything I own was in that house,” McClendon said on the scene. “We have insurance, and it’ll probably pay off the loan, but not rebuild it.”

At least six emergency units from the Fairview, Goldridge and Berlin volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze. They doused the structure with hand-held hoses for hours before the flames were extinguished.

While no injuries were reported, an ambulance unit from Cullman Emergency Medical Services also responded.

There was no word Friday as to what caused the fire or where in the house it started.

“It looks like something blew out the windows,” McClendon said.
