Funeral services for Billy Mays, 74, of Hanceville will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Damascus Baptist Church; Christopher Dotson, James Parker and Delwin Kilgo officiating; with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mays passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 in an automobile accident on Highway 69 South. He was born on Nov. 22, 1937 in Hackleburg to Leonard E. Mays and Vera Gardner May.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Trillie Burleson.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dot Mays; daughter, Valerie Dotson of Cullman; son, Jason (Cindi) Mays of Hayden; grandchildren, Christopher (Merrill) Dotson of Louisville, KY, Joshua Dotson of Auburn, Avery Dotson of Florence and Lindsey Mays of Hayden; step grandsons, Lake Smith, Joshua Crumbley, Jason Crumbley and Landen Crumbley, all of Hayden; step great grandson, Braylen Hensley of Hayden; sisters, Barbara Overton of Hackleburg, Janalene Tebo of Birmingham and Faye (Robert) Hall of Athens; aunt, Mary Mays of Haleyville, uncle, Wendell Giddy of Hamilton, great uncle, Lecil (Thelma Jean) Gardner of Forestdale; mother-in-law, Edith Dean of Hanceville; sisters-in-law, Joan Hill and Pat Ponder of Hanceville, Beverly (Sam) Gonzales of Madison and Mary Lou (Marion) Roberts of Arab and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Sherman Calvert, Kelly Freeman, Kyle Burns, Durwood Dean, Lynn Wood, Dennis Gardner, Dale Gardner and Donald Gardner.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
