Unexpected business will keep Gov. Bob Riley from attending the Cullman County Republican Party dinner tonight as planned. However, organizers plan to reschedule the event for some later time in July.
Treasurer Brenda Horn said, “It’s just a postponement.”
Horn received a telephone call Wednesday morning from the governor’s office.
The scheduler told Horn the governor was called to Washington for a high-level meeting. She said he was disappointed.
Those with tickets should hold on to them. The event will be held at the Dodge House Restaurant as originally planned.
She said the event was a fund raiser for the local organization.
Everyone who is prepaid has been placed in a database. Horn said she spent the day e-mailing and phoning guests but said she doubted she had everyone’s name.
Meanwhile, Cullman area Republicans will hold its monthly breakfast on July 7 at Jack’s Restaurant in Good Hope. The meal begins at 7 a.m. followed by the guest speaker at 8 a.m.
The executive director of the Alabama Republican Party John Ross is the featured speaker. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Richmond and his Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama.
Ross was on the staff of Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, before he accepted his current position. He also worked on the governor’s campaign.
