Judge allows ex-'Bama player to leave state

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A judge has cleared the way for former University of Alabama football player D.J. Pettway to go to school in Mississippi while charged with robbery in Tuscaloosa County.

A district court judge granted permission at the request of a lawyer for the player, who is free on bond.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban dismissed Pettway and three other players from the team in February after they were charged in alleged robberies in Tuscaloosa.

While a lawyer for the player sought permission for Pettway to attend school in Mississippi, he didn't specify which college.

The 18 year-old former linebacker is facing two counts of second-degree robbery.

Pettway and the three other dismissed players were backups last season for Alabama.
