FLORENCE, Ala. —
A former north Alabama physician has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison on charges stemming from a health care fraud scheme.
U.S. Attorney's spokeswoman Peggy Sanford, of the Northern District of Alabama, said 55-year-old Diana McCutcheon, of Killen, was sentenced for billing a health insurer and Medicare for non-reimbursable cosmetic skin treatments that added up to about $1 million between 2007 and 2011. McCutcheon pleaded guilty to four counts of health care fraud and two counts of wire fraud in November.
Officials say McCutcheon is ordered to pay restitution of more than $990,300 to Blue Cross and Blue Shield ofAlabama and Medicare. She is also ordered to pay the same amount to the government as proceeds of illegal activity.
