Nearly $14,000 spent for Alabama troopers in casino raid

Associated Press

MONTGOMERY — Authorities say it cost nearly $14,000 for state troopers to help serve search warrants and assist with the rain on the VictoryLand casino in Shorter.

WSFA-TV, which requested the information from the Alabama Department of Public Safety, reported the figure in a story this week.

The agency says the troopers’ assignment was at the request of Attorney General Luther Strange’s office. It was a total of 40 hours to ensure a sufficient number of troopers remained on regular patrol. During that 40 hour detail, the AG’s office seized more than 1,600 gaming devices and more than $220,000 in cash during the Feb. 19 raid.
