Ala man who shot police dog gets 20 years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. —

A man who pleaded guilty to shooting a Montgomery police dog after a robbery has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

WAKA-TV reports that 20-year-old Frank Raven received a year for shooting a police canine named Bodi and 20 years for the holdup. A judge sentenced him on Wednesday.

The sentences will run at the same time.

Raven robbed a Title Cash store late last year and fled into a nearby neighborhood. Bodi, a German shepherd, found him hiding in a shed.

Raven shot at Bodi as the dog advanced to capture him. The dog lost his left eye and retired to live with his handler.

Bodi died in July at the age of 11 of an unrelated illness.

Raven pleaded guilty in the case in October.
