GOOD HOPE — Local high school volleyball fans got to see two of the better teams in north Alabama face off when Class 3A No. 5 Good Hope hosted 2A No. 2 Addison.
The Lady Bulldogs came away with a 25-12, 25-21 win.
Addison jumped out to a 5-1 lead then gradually extended the lead to more than 10 and held it until it reached 25 for the win in the first game.
The second win came a little harder as the Good Hope’s defense stepped up and was not letting Addison get an easy win.
The Lady Raiders’ front line was constantly getting above the net blocking Addison’s hits and getting digs on those that got past the blocks.
However, Addison was able to maintain the lead as the Lady Bulldogs went on runs to gain advantages of three to four points before Good Hope came back to tie on three different occasions.
Addison went on one final run to take a 22-17 lead and held on by five points before Good Hope scored two consecutive to cut the lead to three at 24-21.
Addison was then able to secure the win with another kill to end the game and the match.
“Good Hope has some good size, and we had a hard time getting our hits by them,” said Addison coach Pam Wilkins. “Jessy Willingham did a good job of hitting, serving and passing, and Shanna Smith and Haley Wiggins did a good job as well.”
Willingham finished with 10 kills, while Smith had eight kills.
“I was glad to see us play as well as we did tonight,” said Good Hope coach Rosemary Brown. “We did a good job of playing together, especially on defense.”
Jessica Raper had six kills and four blocks for Good Hope, while Brianna Yarbrough had eight kills.
