CHASING DREAMS

Cullman’s Will Morrison (left), Grayson Taylor (center) and Michael Myers (right) ink baseball scholarships with their respective college teams on Wednesday.

Like so many seniors before them, Cullman's Will Morrison, Michael Myers and Grayson Taylor are parlaying successful high school careers into collegiate futures on the baseball field.

Morrison (Wallace State), Myers (Snead State) and Taylor (Belmont University) signed scholarships on Wednesday inside Tillman Hall surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches and administrators.

Morrison, who had originally committed to Mississippi State, netted All-State (Class 6A second-team pitcher) and All-Area (Pitcher of the Year) honors to go along with his deserving selection as a North-South All-Star and Collegiate High School Baseball All-American (first-team pitcher) following a terrific junior campaign.

Myers (pitcher) and Taylor (shortstop) also made great contributions to the Bearcats, who finished runners-up in Class 6A for the third time in the past four seasons.

See below for complete capsules:

Will Morrison

% School: Wallace State

% Sport: Baseball

% Stats: Secured a 10-1 record with 77 strikeouts, an 0.87 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP in 72 1/3 innings last season, including three shutouts and a no-hitter — the second of his career.

% Player Speak: "It means a lot. Every kid wants to grow up and play college baseball. It's a great day. Wallace State is a great program. You see so many players go there and then go on to great things. That's obviously what I want to do as well. I'm just going to be the best I can be this year and enjoy my final season with my friends." — Will Morrison

% Coach Speak: "I was looking through Will's stats the other night, and his consistency stands out the most. That's what you notice. He throws strikes, and he knows how to pitch and miss barrels. He's just fun to watch. He can do so much for you on the mound. He always feels like his next pitch is going to be a strike." — Brent Patterson

Michael Myers

% School: Snead State

% Sport: Baseball

% Stats: Secured a 4-0 record with 30 strikeouts, a 1.26 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 33 1/3 innings last season.

% Player Speak: "It's definitely exciting. All the hard work and hours I've put in have led to this day. It's just crazy to think about. I love pitching for this team. They're my family. I'm going to give it all I've got out there this year." — Michael Myers

% Coach Speak: "Michael throws strikes and eats innings. This summer, he emerged as our clear No. 2 starter. You just know what you're going to get from him. He competes, he's fierce, and he's quiet. But he can pitch. He's gotten outs his entire life. I threw him in big spots last year, and he was the same guy. He just does his thing." — Brent Patterson

Grayson Taylor

% School: Belmont

% Sport: Baseball

% Stats: Secured a .269 batting average, a .380 on-base percentage, 17 runs, eight RBIs and five doubles in 29 games last season. Had a .910 fielding percentage at shortstop and helped turn 10 double plays.

% Player Speak: "I'm just ready for the season to start. I'm excited about Belmont. It's a beautiful campus, and I like the people there, and it's an amazing opportunity. But we've got stuff we want to accomplish here first." — Grayson Taylor

% Coach Speak: "That's the good and bad of our program. We've got great players that are playing behind other great players. Grayson stepped in for Kolby (Robinson) last season and was fantastic. Played great defense and really came along offensively. He's going to be a surprise for a lot of people. He's a kid whose best days are ahead of him." — Brent Patterson
