Holly Pond received big-time contributions from Meg Gambrill and Natasha Holcombe and forced 17 first-half turnovers en route to an effortless 61-22 win over county-foe Vinemont on Tuesday evening.
Gambrill netted 19 points — 15 in the first half — to go with a handful of steals and assists. Holcombe dropped in 17 points of her own to help the Green and White to their sixth consecutive victory.
The Class 3A No. 4 Broncos (12-2) found their offensive rhythm after an up-and-down first quarter, as Gambrill made a second home inside the paint. The junior got plenty of easy baskets on open looks and more than enough dimes on dishes to unguarded Broncos when the Eagles helped out on her dribble penetration.
With her work done early, Gambrill turned the game over to Holcombe, Kaitlyn Stephens and Rachel Finley, among others.
Holcombe found her post game in the third quarter, scoring eight points against an undersized Eagle frontcourt. Stephens and Finley provided ample support as well to put it away early.
Both Stephens and Finley finished with six points on the night, while Melissa Clingman (five), Abby Gambrill and Taylor Rowell (both three), and Kristen Sparks (two) rounded out the scoring for Scott Adams’ squad.
Katie Speer netted 10 points for Vinemont in the loss. Hannah Adamson and Casey Westmoreland were each good for six.
Holly Pond will travel back to Felton Easterwood Gymnasium to host Fairview on Friday. Meanwhile, the Eagles will hope to get back in the win column against Falkville.
