Former Cullman County football star Brontae Harris intercepted a pass and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown during the first half of UAB's 52-21 home victory against Rice on Saturday.
Harris, a former walk-on, notched a scholarship back in the spring and has played in all nine matchups this season. He came into the game with 10 total tackles and a pass breakup.
But he wasn't the only local athlete to shine for his respective team.
West Point graduate Kobe Smith scored his first collegiate touchdown in Huntingdon's 55-7 win against Methodist. The sophomore — who ran it in from 7 yards— now has 396 rushing yards on 79 carries for the D-III Hawks this season.
Holly Pond product Michael Lambert tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass two weeks ago against Greensboro in a simple 52-7 road victory for Huntingdon, which is 8-1 this season.
