CULLMAN — A record 5,307 OCC Shoeboxes collected by church members and individuals from across Cullman County overwhelmed the OCC Relay Center at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church with shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts for deserving children around the world. The previous record for Cullman County was 4,125 boxes collected in 2005.

The Cullman shoeboxes were shipped to the North Alabama Collection Center in Decatur.  The 32,000 shoeboxes collected in North Alabama were shipped to Atlanta where thousands of volunteers will prepare millions of boxes for shipment all over the world. Each box will contain the gospel message printed in the language of the child receiving the box. Several Cullman County church members volunteer to work at the Atlanta Distribution Center. Operation Christmas Child is a mission project of Samaritan's Purse. Their goal this year was to collect 10 million boxes.
