Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church
Leaders and members of Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 321 celebrated National Boy Scout Sunday by taking part in the Mass service at Sacred Heart of Jesus this past weekend. They were Altar servers, ushers and Communion presenters, and following the service they served a pancake and sausage breakfast to the congregation in the Family Life Center.
In addition, they highlighted their scouting skills with several displays set up both in front of the church and in the Family Life Center. A campsite complete with a cooking campfire, tents, grills and various outdoor equipment was center stage. The scouts also set up displays of badges,books, awards and other memorabilia related to scouting over the past 103 years it has been in existence in America. There were types of scouting constructed in the dining hall, as well as various types of knots and rope displays. Visitors were treated to a tour of the layout by the scouts who explained each section's importance.
There are 20 scouts in the troop and they currently are working toward their Eagle rank, Scouting's highest. Leaders of the troop include Scoutmaster David Schwaiger who has been in scouting for the past 45 years, Committee Chairman is Philip Presto; Bro. David Bryant serves as chaplain; leaders include Vee Schwaiger, Charlie Youmans, Nick Lee, Luke Henderson and Debbie Beebe. Unit commissioner is Mike Burnett with Paul Schwaiger serving as charter representative.
The newly organized Cub Scout Pack has 10 youngsters with Mark Andrews serving as cubmaster.
Both the troop and the pack are sponsored by Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Their special event was part of the church's centennial celebration of the 100th year of the laying of the cornerstone of the present church in downtown Cullman.
