Scripture luncheon guests make music and praise

The tables were full as 80 women and Deacon Mike Branch celebrated another successful Scripture Luncheon hosted by the Sacred Heart Altar Society members.

Attendees were treated to a social gathering for visiting and meeting new folks, then they enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Cathy Gray, with scrumptious cheesecake slices provided by Lisa Young Durchold, who plans to serve these desserts in her own Flavors Bakery when it opens in Cullman’s Historic Warehouse District shortly.

Kathy Collier, vice president of the Altar Society, conducted the meeting and introduced the speakers at each decorated table. The theme of this program revolves around scriptures.  Individuals decorated their section with designs reflecting their chosen scripture verses and listeners heard everything from Psalm 23 to Psalm 98, “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”  And they did, singing “This Little Light of Mine”!

Other tables encompassed the themes of a “Virtuous Woman” and “The Gifts of Faith” received from God, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet”,  “The Good Shepherd”, with one table dedicated to “The Infant of Prague”.  Special gifts were provided for table attendees and door prizes were distributed as well, much to the delight of the women!

Plans are underway for next year’s luncheon scheduled for April 6, as it will be part of the 100-year celebration of the laying of the cornerstone of the present Sacred Heart Church. The event will feature a special guest speaker and plans are to prepare for 200 guests in 2013!

It was noted that this year in May is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Altar Society.
