UNSUNG HERO: Marvin Key

March 29, 2008 09:28 pm

Marvin Key began his career in education in 1952 at Meek School in Winston County. The next year he came to Cullman County to teach at Dowling Junior High. He retired in 1988 but continued to work until the beginning of this year at age 85.
There are few people who are as dedicated to education as this Unsung Hero. He would go far beyond the call of duty to help administrators and teachers have what they needed to do their job. If a student needed a textbook, desk or any other material, he made sure the student got it.
He established what is now called the “Media Mobile” with about 50 16-millimeter films. Now it includes thousands of VHS movies. This van goes to every school in the county weekly so teachers can get the materials they need without having to wait.
Key lives to help other people, whether in small ways or large.
