DODGE CITY: A tasty stop

By Noah Chandler
The Cullman Times

DODGE CITY — Hungry residents of Dodge City head to the Road House, one of the most well known family operated restaurants in the small town.

Owner’s Joe and Marsha Weinman said they took over the business in October of 2007, after the two retired from the city life in Atlanta.

“We wanted to own a restaurant in Alabama and close to where we grew up,” Marsha Weinman said. “The people here are so friendly, and it’s quiet living. And they all seem to care about each other. It’s nothing like Atlanta.”

The couple currently lives in Hartselle but come to the restaurant every day. Joe Weinman said he is enjoying being a business owner in the small town of Dodge City.

“The people are great,” Joe said. “These are the kind of people I was raised with. Good country people who say what they mean and mean what they say.”

The Weinman’s said the community has stood behind them as they took over the business. Joe said the town’s 612 residents have treated them well since coming to the town.

“Business has been getting better,” Joe said. “We have been really surprised with the growth, but these people are great. On Friday and Saturday nights it’s like a big family reunion.”

Dodge City resident and waitress at the Road House Jamie Wilbur said the atmosphere and people make living in the town a joy.

“It’s a small town where everybody knows each other,” Wilbur said. “I see a lot of the same people everyday. We have several customers who come in everyday and I already know what they want before they order. I wouldn’t change it.”
