BAILEYTON: ‘Where everybody knows you’

If you are headed out Highway 69 from Fairview to Arab, don’t blink or you might miss the tiny town of Baileyton.

The town has two gas stations and one restaurant, according to lifelong resident Ashly Quick, but he said he didn’t mind. Quick said he would like to see some other type of family operated restaurant to open, but until then he said he will continue to enjoy the food at Parkside Catfish.

“I would like some kind of excitement here,” Quick said. “Maybe a new restaurant or something. Right now we just go to the park, the dragstrip or Parkside.”

Quick’s thought’s of a brighter future didn’t stop at adding new businesses. He ventured into the world of politics as well.

“I think it would be great to have Johnny Dyar be our mayor,” Quick said. “He should get all the votes. He’s a fat man that looks like Santa Claus.”

Quick said Dyar is one of his regular customers at the catfish restaurant. He said Dyar is a funny man who could bring some excitement to Baileyton.

Joining Quick in a Sunday afternoon chat at the Baileyton Town Park were his friends and former classmates Skylar Talley and Nicole Kennedy. They said they love living in the small town, but agreed the town needs more excitement.

“Really all we have to do is work and listen to karaoke,” Kennedy said. “It’s a nice town where everybody knows you. And that I like.”
