It has come to our attention that the Alabama Senate has passed Senate Bill 606 to allow increases in the expense allowances for the mayor and city council of Hanceville during their terms of office. This bill will now be coming to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Article I, Section 68, of the Alabama Constitution states:

Legislature shall have no power to grant or to authorize or require any county or municipal authority, nor shall any county or municipal authority have power to grant any extra compensation, fee or allowance to any public officer, servant or employee, agent or contractor, after service shall have been rendered or contract made, nor to increase or decrease the fees and compensation of such officers during their terms of office.

Clearly, Senate Bill 606 is unconstitutional and a direct violation of Article 1, Section 68. As our representative in Montgomery, you are sworn to uphold the Alabama Constitution, and, therefore, we ask that you vote NO when this proposal comes before the House of Representatives.
