Charles Edward Phipps

Funeral services for Charles Edward Phipps, 70, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Bros. Dennis Trimble and Jimmy McClendon officiating, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phipps died Tuesday, April 29, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County in Paoli, Ind. He was born on Sept. 5, 1937, in Tennessee to Winley D. and Zephie French Phipps. He was a factory supervisor with Nicholson File for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Throughout his life he enjoyed helping others, especially since March 22, 2004, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Charlene Phipps.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Wyatt Phipps of Cullman; a son, Terry (Lyndee) Phipps of Marion, Ind.; a daughter, Angela (Bill) Ellis of Garden City; two grandchildren, Landy (Brandon) Otis of Middletown, Ind., William Charles “Will” Ellis of Garden City; two great-grandchildren, Justice Taylor Wolcott and Michael Lane Wolcott, both of Middletown, Ind.; two sisters, Hallie Thurman and Bobbie (Roy) Turner, both of Crossville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Harley Phipps of Anderson, Ind., and Clyde Phipps of Pierre, S.D.

Special friends serving as pallbearers will be Tim Moore, Philip McSwain, Gary McMinn, Larry Penn, Fred Penn, G.W. Hicks, Doug Mason and Robbie Trimble.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
