CULLMAN — Roger Wayne Newsome Sr.

Memorial services for Roger Wayne Newsome Sr., 83, of Sebring, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church, the Rev. George Hall officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Fla. (www.stephensonnelsonfh.com).

Mr. Newsome passed away Monday, Nov. 19, in Sebring. He was born March 27, 1929, to Roger David and Roxie Olive Hill Newsome in Avon Park, Fla., and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was an assistant foreman for a citrus packing company and a member of Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the Korean war, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Roger Wayne Newsome Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Hortense Lela Newsome of Sebring; three daughters, Debbie (Wayne) Slade of Lake Placid, Fla., Leda Kay (Jim) Coleman of Cullman and Kim Glarner of Sebring; a brother, Gene C. Newsome of Avon Park; a sister, Holly Crawford of Avon Park; her grandsons, Keith (Tanya) Slade, Roger (Holly) Slade, Steve Slade (Jessica Hutchins), Shawn Slade (Erica Meyers), Jimmy (Amber) Coleman, Ben Coleman, Ben Coleman, Jake Glarner and Brandon Glarner; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of Highlands County, 7321 Haywood Taylor Blvd., Sebring, FL 33876.
