Harlie ‘Shorty’ Young
Funeral services for Harlie “Shorty” Young, 88, of Arkadelphia will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church in Arkadelphia; Bros. Marvin Clemons, Phillip Starnes and Tim Barnett officiating; with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at Valley View Baptist Church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Young passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at his residence. He was born on Oct. 3, 1925 in Blount County to Joe and Janie Calvert Young. He was a charter member and deacon of Valley View Baptist Church. He was a member of the US Army during WWII and the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He loved his family; especially his wife of 6o years, Alice; his church, community, friends and the game of Uno.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 16 brothers and sisters and one great granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Ogletree Young of Arkadelphia; two sons, Dan (Janice) Young of Pontotoc, MS and Phillip (Sheri) Young of Nebo, NC; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Bert (Doris) Young of Hopkinsville, KY and James (Earline) Young of Cedar Lake, IN; two sisters, Fay Bice of Vinemont and Nell (Arnold) Clevenger of Maplesville, AL and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Paul Harper, Tim Baty, Albert Baty, John Leonard, Joe Dean, Chris Young and honorary pallbearer, Leon Baty.
