Janelle A. Elrod

CULLMAN — Janelle A. “Jan” Elrod, 74, a resident of Pike Road, Alabama, died Monday, December 24, 2012.

Preceded in death by her husband, Millard “Gene” Elrod, she is survived by her daughter, Cristi Whitfield (Morris); her sons, Michael Elrod (Lisa) and Brian Elrod (Tracie); grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Rebekka, and Brittany Whitfield, Chase and Lindsay Elrod, and Madison and Savannah Elrod; and a brother, Nelson Abercrombie (Karen).

Mrs. Elrod had retired as an educator at Troy University where she had served as Chairperson of the Mathematics Department, and had earned the Ingals Award for outstanding faculty member. An active member of the Pike Road Civic Club and Whitfield UMC, she was involved in several committees and sang with the Merry Elders. She was also a supporter of the Davis Theater and an avid bridge player. Her Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, from 5-7 PM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, with her Funeral Service on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at 11 AM, from Whitfield United Methodist Church. A Visitation will follow on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 11a.m.-1 p.m. at the Cullman Funeral Home in Cullman, followed by a Graveside Service at nearby Baileyton Cemetery at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whitfield United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Condolences may be offered at www.alabamaheritagefh.com.
