CULLMAN — Freda Kathleen Fox

Freda Kathleen Fox went home peacefully to be with her Lord Monday, Nov. 26, 2012. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville. At the time of her death she was Trinity’s oldest living member, at 95 years of age.

Miss Fox was born at White City, July 3, 1917. She attended White City School and graduated high school in Hanceville in 1935. In two years she had saved $90 and enrolled at Florence State Teachers College. She was then assigned to the last one-teacher school in Cullman County. After one year she was moved to a larger school where she taught third grade. After three years there, she received training at a Gadsden Trade School, then joined other war time workers at Brookley Field in Mobile, inspecting damaged airplane parts and routing them for repair. Eighteen months later she accepted a teaching assignment at a Lutheran school in Chattanooga, Tenn.

She then taught 24 more years, including three in Chicago and 10 at St. Paul’s in Cullman. The year 1972 found her teaching again in Chattanooga and after the school was destroyed by fire, she attended the University of Tennessee, getting her master’s degree. After this, she authored two Bible books to assist adults to learn to read the Bible.

Although she never married, her students were her children. Show her a class picture and she could tell you the names of her students.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lena Beilhart Fox; a brother, Paul Fox; and a nephew, Michael Fox.

She is survived by nephews, Marion (Virginia) Fox and Allen (Faye) Fox; niece, Martha (Gordon) Blanton; niece-in-law, Freida Fox and many grand nieces and nephews.

Services for Miss Fox will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 505 Commercial St. SE, Hanceville, AL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hanceville Funeral Home.

Miss Fox requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hanceville.
