Mary Helen Thorn Blackmon
Funeral services for Mary Helen Thorn Blackmon, 59, of Gadsden will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Village Chapel Funeral Home in Gadsden, the Rev. Renée Carroll officiating, with burial in Marshall Memorial Gardens in Albertville.
Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service-Gadsden is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Blackmon was call home by her Lord and Savior Saturday, Sept. 7. She was a member of 2RMor Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Thorn Sr.; and a nephew, Cotton Bell.
Survivors include her life partner of 16 years, Michael Marzie Blackmon; her chosen children, Jay and Rena Dawkins; chosen grandchildren, Colby and Gracelyn Dawkins; her mother, Frances Smith; a sister, Patricia Hollingsworth; brothers, Joe Pat (Cathy) Thorn and Jim (Joann) Thorn; nephews, Shawn and Zach Thorn; a niece, Hayley Thorn; and a host of loving family and friends.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Carlton Eugene Stafford
Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.

Susan Werner died Monday, July 21, 2014, as a result of an apparent fall at her home in Gainesville, Florida. Susan grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and, after graduation from FSU, spent many years in Cullman, where she taught elementary school and received a master’s degree from UAB. While in Cullman, she married Robert Werner and helped run a family retail business.
