— Dr. James C. “Jake” Bailey passed away Friday, October 18, 2013, surrounded by his family, after a long illness.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Meyer Bailey, his children: Gina Bailey McKell and Beth Bailey Pappas (Tom); his grandchildren: Bailey and Charles McKell, Leah, Bethany and Sally Ann Pappas; a sister, Pat Bailey Hesterley (L.D.); and one brother, Darrell Bailey (Sherry); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dr. Bailey served as President of Wallace State Community College for 32 years and devoted his life to education. He was also an avid supporter and promoter of Cullman County and a long standing member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Moss-Service Funeral Home with visitation Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013 with burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Flowers will be accepted. Memorial donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the James C. Bailey Scholarship Fund at Wallace State Community College.

Mr. Bailey will lie in state at the church from 12-1 p.m. on Monday.
