Ruby Beatrice Armstrong Clark

HANCEVILLE — Ruby Beatrice Armstrong Clark

Funeral services for Ruby Beatrice Armstrong Clark, 97, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Dennis Lott officiating, with interment in Mountain Grove Congregational Cemetery.

Mrs. Clark died Monday, Oct. 14, at Bibb Medical Center in Centerville. She was born Oct. 20, 1915, to Hubert and Leatha Little Armstrong. She married Edward Lee Clark on Sept. 19, 1936.

Edd and Ruby truck farmed until their children were grown. Ruby then worked in the lunchroom at Hanceville School and was also a substitute teacher. She worked for Herman Plunkett’s store, and also for Atkins store in Steppville, as well as Shaver Brother Grocery in Garden City. Edd and Ruby also owned and operated Piney Grove Fruit Stand with their daughter-in-law, Janie Johns Clark, for 21 years. After retirement, she worked for Hanceville Senior Center. Ruby was crowned Ms. Senior Sassy in 1995 by Bill Bolen.

She was a member of Mt. Grove Congregational Christian Church for 64 years, where she served as young people director, adult Sunday school director and president of the Women’s Fellowship.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; a son, Frank E. (Buddy) Clark; grandsons; Jeffery and Heath Clark; a granddaughter, Melissa Jane Clark; and her sister, Gladys Armstrong Beason.

She is survived by a daughter, Gwen Clark Harris Headrick (Rick Thompson); a son, Bruce Hubert Clark (Jeanette Ayers); daughters-in-law, Etta Landrum Clark and Janie Johns Clark; grandchildren, Danny (Joy) Harris, Johnny (Laura) Harris, Bruce “Cooter” (Judy) Clark, Leasha (Shanon) Clark Fischer and Zackery James (T’shan) Clark; great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Harris (Wesley) McSwain, Derek (Keisha) Harris, Jake (Jessica) Harris, Leslie and Lacey Fischer, Haven and Justin Clark; great-great-grandchild, Peyton McSwain; and a nephew, Larry (Lia) Hayes.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to Mt. Grove Congregational Women’s Fellowship.

The family would like to thank Omega Hospice, Southern Care Hospice, Dr. Mieman and staff for the loving care given to Mrs. Clark.

 Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Susan grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and, after graduation from FSU, spent many years in Cullman, where she taught elementary school and received a master’s degree from UAB. While in Cullman, she married Robert Werner and helped run a family retail business.
