JONES CHAPEL — Virginia Lee Jones

Funeral services for Virginia Lee Jones, 94, of the Jones Chapel community, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating, with interment in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jones passed away Monday, Dec. 9, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born July 27, 1919, to David Oscar and Bertha Idella Schultz Lee. Mrs. Jones had many different titles and roles throughout her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked hard as a housewife, lunchroom worker, and was one of the first female school bus drivers for Cullman County Schools. Even though she worked hard in life, she never failed to take time to stop to play a game of softball with her children, in her younger years, or help her great-grandchildren with sewing or cooking a treat, in her later years. She was known to many as Mother, Giggi, Aunt Giggi, Mawmaw, Grandmother Jones, Granny Jones and Nonna. Love came easy for her and she was easy to love. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and the love of her life, Lafayette Oscar “Doc” Jones; two sisters, Bobbi Jones and Gaynell Cobb; two brothers, Orville Smith and Virgil Lee; and one son-in-law, Jerry Marchman.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn (Mack) Sims, of Huntsville, Phyllis Marchman, Jeannean Jones and Kay (Buddy) Wilkins, all of Cullman; a brother, Drennen “Brint” Lee, of Lillian; eight grandchildren, David Sims of Huntsville, James (Angela) Marchman of Cullman, Dalene Marchman of Cullman, Terri (David) Douglas of Huntsville, Laura (Kenneth) Brown of Cullman, Jamie Woodard of Arley, Jennifer Sims of Huntsville and Joseph (Elizabeth) Wilkins of Cullman; 12 great-grandchildren, Whitney Brown, Brooke Marchman, Lindsey Douglas, Emily Laney, Dexter Woodard, Jacob Marchman, Cole Brown, Katie Douglas, Jessie Woodard, Jake Douglas, Macayla Wilkins and Mason Wilkins; a special niece and “daughter”, Denise Latty; and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, family and friends.

Visitation was from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
