CULLMAN — Oletta Hopper Shaling

Funeral services for Oletta Hopper Shaling, 84, of Jones Chapel will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Vance family cemetery in Jones Chapel.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shaling passed away Saturday, March 16, at her home. She was born July 1, 1928, in Cullman to Lee and Dessie Lenora Vance Hopper. Oletta was a homemaker, she took care of her family in every sense of the word, raising her five kids, and taking care of her husband, who preceded her in death. She even took care of some of the neighborhood kids. She was a great gardener, even before becoming a Master Gardener, and she said on numerous occasions, “I’ve found God in the garden.” Oletta spent her time taking care of her family and she loved them all — children, grandchildren and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Edward “Ed” C. Shaling Sr.; and was the last of nine siblings.

Survivors include two daughter, Linda (John) Hudson and Patty (George) Hooper; three sons, Edward (Rose de Cav) Shaling, Richard (Sandra) Shaling and Joey (Jennye) Shaling; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
