CULLMAN — W.C. Nelson

Funeral services for W.C. Nelson, 87, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Bethlehem East Baptist Church, the Rev. Dale McAnnally officiating, with interment with military honors in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nelson passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the VA Administration. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during World War II in Europe, Belgium and Germany. Mr. Nelson served his community as a member of the Hanceville City Council, the Hanceville Water Board and Lions Club president. He was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years and Hanceville High School football announcer for over 40 years. He ran Hanceville Appliance for over 50 years and was a deacon at Bethlehem East Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pauline Carter Nelson; his wife, Charleen Nelson; a brother, Harold Nelson; and two brothers-in-law, Bunyan Jackson and Ervin Michelfelder.

Survivors include his son, Larry Nelson; a sister, Ellen (William) Remaley; four sisters-in-law, Marge Nelson, Thelma Jackson, Betty (J.W.) Hicks and Eva Michelfelder; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
